How do I test my game on an iPad?

Targeting iPhone vs iPad for iOS game?

  • I would like to hear some thoughts from someone with experience for targeting iPhone vs iPad for an iOS game.  What should we be thinking about when selecting between writing for the iPad vs iPhone for the first version?  For example will the iPhone be a better choice just due to the sheer number of devices compared with iPad? The game will have simple game play with multi levels along the lines of an Angry Birds, Doodle Jump, Tiny Wings.

  • Answer:

I would say there is barely a reason not to do both! If you use SpriteBuilder and Cocos2D for your game it will be very easy to publish the game for iPhone and iPad. We teach you how to clone Angry Birds using SpriteBuilder and how to create an additional iPad version of the game in our tutorial: https://www.makegameswith.us/tutorials/getting-started-with-spritebuilder/

IMHO you should target iPhone/iPos mainly due to the "kind" of game. On iPad you expect a rich, animated, stunning experience which is usually not there when dealing with simple/fast/addicitive games.

1. iPhone/iPod shall be better, due to the number of users and. 2. iPad is not bad as well, given that there are a lot of people who wants to play the same game on iPad. 3. My advice is, go universal to support both types. This is not that difficult these days.

I don't know why you are targeting iPad or iPhone, functionality is same for both the devices. You need to target iPhone. As there are responsive sites, which runs on all the devices, in the same way games can be played on all the iPhone devices. The only difference is the resolution and the designing part. There is one little part.  As if you with the number of iPad users and then you don't want to go for targeting this, then i can say that you are giving them an opportunity to play the game with your little more efforts.
