Answer:
The reason you are not allowed to change a diaper (nappy) is because the child is present. You are not allowed to view a child's private parts, and you also are liable to drop the child from the changing area. Emptying a potty does not endanger a child in any way where allowing you to drop the child or see his or her private parts may be considered child endangerment. Because you are an under age volunteer, they are under more liability with you. When you are a legal adult and/or employed with them, those terms will change.

Yes, it's legal. The reason you're not allowed to change nappies is because you won't have an enhanced CRB check, which as you may know, is required for all staff working with children to have. Child care facilities - nurserys, schools, day care, private nannying, etc, all have a duty to protect children, by allowing an unchecked person to change a nappy is very dangerous and is not protecting the children. I know it may not have been a nice thing to do, BUT, if you're considering working with children, you'll be dealing with poo and wee all day! It's a common misconception that child care work is all play, play, play - it is far from it, as you have found out.

No, it is not illegal. It's illegal for you to change a nappy because you haven't been cleared as a suitable person to have contact with small children. Nothing to do with poor ickle 15 year olds who can't POSSIBLY encounter pee. Why on earth would you have opted for work experience with small children if you didn't want to deal with pee and poop?

You seriously thought you could work in a day nursery and NOT empty a potty? Hahahahahahahahaa! You poor, deluded little girl. It's illegal for you to change the child's nappy because you haven't been fully CRB-checked. It's for the sake of the child, not you. Emptying a potty doesn't require you to be alone with a naked child. Changing a nappy does. That's the difference. Frankly, I hope you have to mop up baby sick tomorrow, because you really need a major reality check about what working with toddlers is like.

Why wouldn't it be legal? Just because you didn't like to do it, doesn't make it illegal.

No, I don't think it's illegal. It doesn't involve the child. And really, it's a part of the day to day procedures so it's "work experience". :-)
