Answer:
My children have gone/are going to a public Montessori school. IT IS WONDERFUL!!!! It was the best choice I could ever have made for them. They are years ahead of their peers in science and history, and their geography is much better than anyone else's that I know, adult or child. They also LOVE learning. At school, they aren't just taught what to learn, but how to learn and to LOVE that learning. People have said some weird things here, like they don't get cultures or meet different people? That person obviously doesn't know anything about Montessori since all of Montessori education is focused on learning about the world and it's inhabitants. My children can tell you all the myths and legends from all the different cultures, the different holidays, customs, and religious beliefs, as well as the different cultural taboos and such. It is all part of the curriculum to teach them to be respectful. In fact that is a big part of their curriculum also. Not just respect, but learning to be peacemakers. My children have interaction skills that they learned in Montessori that I wish my husband and I had. The only thing that you need to do is make sure that the school that your child goes to is a "real" Montessori school. Not all schools that call themselves Montessori are really Montessori.

It's really up to you and pleae know that with good parents who are willing to work with her at home, she'll probably be great in either case. I'm a public school teacher and am a big believer in the work that they do which is often excellent. If finances are a concern (as they are for so many of us today), then by all means she will be great in public school and if you will be significantly less stressed that will be good for her too. Having said that, I've kept my daughter in her Montessori school for her kindergarten year despite the expense (boy I can't wait til July to have to stop paying for it!). I'm glad that I did. She has just blossomed this year in a way that I would never have believed if I had moved her to public school this year. Montessori programs base things on a 3 year cycle ending in kindergarten, third grade, sixth grade, etc. That last year things come together in ways that you would not believe. If you'd asked me last year, I would have said that she was doing well and probably well-prepared for kindergarten. At the beginning of the year, one of my colleagues in first grade saw her work and said that not only did the kids not do it in kindergarten, her first graders wouldn't be doing it until February!

Public school It will give her a better view of life, people in the world and different cultures (blah blah blah) Private school or whatever you called it, would only shelter her more.

My son goes to a private school for Pre-K. I love that I am able to go and talk to the teacher whenever I want. I feel that in Public school, you are not able to be as connected.
