No, the original thank you is as far as it goes. If their gift is in lieu of a thank you note, it's over. Relax. Otherwise, you will be passing thank yous back and forth for years. They will thank you for thanking them for thanking you for thanking them for thanking you for thanking them for thanking you for thanking them for thanking you for thanking them for thanking you for thanking them for thanking you for thanking them for thanking you for thanking them for thanking you for thanking them...... By thanking them for the gift, you are thanking them for saying thank you in their own way. If you need ANY further assurance, check an etiquette book or on the internet. It will reassure you. As for the gifts from parents, yes, definitely. Mention their child by name in the thank you, and mention it personally to the child. Have the child deliver the thank you note. This gives the child an idea of the importance of thanking people for a kindness, and makes them feel important at the same time.

Yes, it's always appropriate to send a thank you for a gift.

Of course you must. Would you not respond to an oral thank you with a "You are welcom?"As a teacher you will be setting a very good example by sending out thank you notes for the gifts you have received. If you have the time and personalize the notes with a tit bit about your student, they will most certainly be cherished by the receiver too.

but in our school teachers doesnt accept gift. ok ok. you must say verbal thanks

I agree it would be thoughtful. When I was in school many years ago we gave to our teachers gifts at the end of the term, but my parents never received a written thank you note.....times have changed and if it makes you feel better to reply then do it......Thank you notes are always appreciated....
