Is there a website that compares the cost of travelling to different places by train from a your local station?

    Hi, With the route planner i'm afraid it doesn't do quite what you asked as you'll have to keep changing where you want to go but it's really helpful for finding cheap fares as well. I've added Martin Lewis's site as well because he features some great tips and deals.

Yes, certainly thetrainline will show you all possible price permutations, but you do need to put a destination in. The various train operating companies websites also offer special deals, some of which are not otherwise available. However, these will only be for major stations.

As you don't say where you are starting from its a bit difficult to answer this question, but if your journey is over 60 miles long, you will find booking your ticket as far in advance as possible for specific trains, will be cheaper. For shorter journeys start your journey after 09-30am weekdays, any time weekends and buy an 'Off Peak Return' . A national railcard will give you 34% discount on your rail tickets for the next year. www.railcard.co.uk
