What does one calendar month for a return train ticket mean?

what journey are you making hun? if you look on the return part of your ticket it has a valid from date and below that a valid until date (that's if u have the standard orange tickets bought from a tickets office) as for the off peak that can all depend on the journey your making, normally after 9.30 am but returning can depend...some don't have a restriction coming back

27th October is the last date you can return. "Off Peak" is usually defined as after 0930 in the UK. On a few routes, the period 1600 to 1900 is also peak hours. If you're in the UK, check for your route with National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.

Literally what it says, your ticket is valid for one calendar month, i.e. 2 may to 2 june.
