What happens if you take the wrong amtrak train/misread your ticket and take the train on wrong date?

    Call the 1-800-USA-RAIL number right now. Explain the situation. They will reserve a new spot for you (Most Amtrak trains are now all-reserved). Write down the confirmation number on the ticket itself. Then tomorrow, go to the ticket window and exchange the ticket. If it is an unmanned station, ask the phone agent what to do. Generally it's the same, but you MUST be on the conductor''s manifest since the ticket won't be correct.

ask the ticket agent also some trains like pacific surfliner, Capitol corridor trains the ticket is good on any of those trains (I assume the same with the northeast regional trains beside didnt you say YOU got to YOUR destination? so why are you asking?if you are AT your destination?

Go and talk to the Amtrak customer service representative--I don't believe they will let you change your tickets since you missed your train ride. Typically, they check your ticket as you are on the Amtrak train; not having the proper ticket will kick you off the train

Normally, if it is a normal ticket, it is fine to get a different train. This is why the conductors on the train stamp the tickets, so you can only use it once. You can always check this at the ticket office.
