Safety traveling by train ~ Amtrak?

  • Answer:

If you are concerned about her safety then buy her an airplane ticket. She'll be home in 2 hours, not 2 1/2 days and her safety and your peace of mind is way more important. The Amtrak ticket is probably more expensive than a flight anyway. Amtrak is the most expensive way to travel in the USA. I just checked the fares. A one way fare on Amtrak from Spokane to Denver in December is $306. It's a 63 hour trip on the train. If you fly it will cost $237 and it's a 2 hour flight.

Yes, Amtrak is much safer than Greyhound. Reserve a private room for your daughter instead of coach. It is relatively inexpensive. The small private areas are quite comfortable and safe. She will enjoy the experience.

She will be fine. Amtrak is safe. Just tell her not to talk to strangers. If she is going to college in a different state she can manage a 2.5 day trip back home. Don't worry!

Yes she should be fine.

Amtrak is fine. The engineer/conductor walks around all of the time checking tickets and chatting with the passengers. Can't fly? 2 1/2 is along time and I know Amtrak take some offbeat routes. Isn't it more expensive than flying too?
