What famous musician was a ticket agent for the Santa Fe Railroad?

What happen to the santa fe railroad?

  • what happen to the train from albquerque to santa fe? any to do with the santa fe rail road.

  • Answer:

When I worked for the UP in the early 80's the Santa Fe was almost a done deal merging with "Uncle Pete", they had even gone so far as design a paint scheme and had stationery printed, then the ICC said uhhh, wait a minute, we dont like that idea. So, the "Santa Flush" went shopping again and found the BN to merge with. They had been struggling for quite some time and needed to merge with a company with more route connections. It has been a good merger for both. The passenger service you asked about is no longer operated by the RR companies, it is part of Amtrak which runs trains over exixting freight routes.

The Santa Fe is alive and well. They merged with the Burlington Northern, whose view of things is "Our railroad is big enough for 2 paint schemes." So, blue and yellow Santa Fe diesels tear down the Transcon at 80 mph to this very day! The Transcon (LA-Chicago) is mostly double track, but a bunch through Kansas was always single track. Since 2003 they've been double tracking it all, should be done this year. 2006 is the heaviest traffic year in the history of railroads, they need the track. Trains magazine asked them if they have any plans to triple-track. "Are you kidding? We've already started!"

If you are perhaps thinking of the Santa Fe's famous Chief/Super Chief passenger train than yes, indeed, it is now part of Amtrak.

As a locomotive engineer no it has nothing to do with Santa Fe RR. Santa fe is now longer independant it has merged to form one railroad with Burlington Northern RR and is now known as BNSF ( Burlington Northern Santa Fe) wich is not a passenger railroad it is freight and it sounds like you are looking for a passenger train . so check out Amtrak....
