Do trains still run when it snows?
-
It's been heavy snow fall near london this week and I need to catch a train tomorrow but I'm not sure if trains will be running?
-
Answer:
Most trains will run when its snowing as long as its not too deep. I know from a few years ago when the snow was really bad the trains in Scotland had a horrible time so the rail company made sure to install and get more skirts to help trains run in deeper snow so I assume they would have done the same in London especially as transport is huge there.

Sometimes the train still run.If the tracks are covered with a lot of snow they don't run.But sometimes they use a alternate route or stop service.

It depends on what type of snow we get. Check local travel updates.

Around London all will be running tomorrow
Timbo is here
Yes most run. Obviously when snow and ice is very severe there are speed restrictions extending journey times, which means some operators are running special timetables. You can check the website of the train operator you are using:- www.southernrailway.com www.southeasternrailway.co.uk www.greateranglia.co.uk www.firstcapitalconnect.co.uk www.southwesttrains.co.uk www.firstgreatwestern.co.uk www.londonmidland.com www.c2conline.co.uk www.chilternrailways.co.uk

It takes a combination of really severe snow, heavy icing and high winds to seriously affect train services. You don't say where you are travelling from and to, but around London the lines to the south - South Eastern, Southern and South West Trains are often worse affected due to icing of the conductor rails. As I said in answer to the same question a couple of days ago, the main problems - especially in London - is that many of the key staff such as drivers, conductors and signalmen are forced by economic circumstances to live some distance from their places of work. They are therefore reliant on driving or travelling by bus for all or part of the journey to work, and the roads are much worse-affected. They therefore get delayed, especially in the early hours, with the result that their booked trains run late or get cancelled.

There may be delays but they'll run.
HEAVY SNOW? For a train the snow needs to be VERY HEAVY ice is more of a problem or crews not being able to get to the train. Heavy Snow

Most do. But if you're catching a train straight after and there are delays, the other train won't wait. Got stuck in Swansea before now for hours -.-
