Suzuki Forenza problem with reverse?

  • Answer:

If the car is "stalling a bit" one of the clutches is not releasing correctly. The trans PCM (powertrain control module ) is diagnosing the problem - probably recording a "DTC" (diagnostic trouble code) blinking the R light - and additionally it is shifting to a "limp mode" - slow operation. The PCM continues to check the situation - and apparently in forward driving everything is ok - so it then shifts out of the "limp" mode. You need a scan tool connected to the car when the R light is blinking and it will probably tell exactly what is wrong with it. Probably a switch or solenoid or something. Maybe the slow start off is due to locking out 1st and 2nd gear. Got a problem in the clutches. If you are not familiar w/ auto trans they have a series of "clutches" that have multiple plates and are locked/unlocked by oil pressure. Solenoid (electric) valves controlled by the computer by a combination of signals control what speed the trans is in. If any of these solenoids or wires screw up - this is what happens.
