Answer:
My vote goes with the Saab. You are basically choosing between a regular midsize sedan (camry) and an entry level luxury sedan (saab). You get the necessary power you need from the turbocharger, the safety from its safest in its class, and i'm sure it comes with alot of standard features that are considered options on the Camry. Saab gets a bad rep simply because not enough people are exposed to the brand or have actually owned one. The people i know that have actually OWNED one have been very pleased with their Saab. Camry's are good cars, just boring....

I have a 1998 Saab 900 SE turbo that has 134,000 miles on it and is still running strong. It has all the bells and whistles and they still work fine after all these years. Funny thing is that the value is worth nothing, but I STILL get compliments on the car all the time...seriously. We put a little money into tires, wheels, tint and a new paint job and people think it is a new car. I love it, always have. There is my story on Saab. Camry's are grandma cars, hhhaah kidding. Get the one you like the best. Some people say they have had problems with Saab, but I have had mine since brand new and never a problem. I have done nothing than normal maintance and it is going strong. Still a very nice car 11 years later.
Hey Mo!
If you moms friend has reliable kept up with maintenance on the vehicle and it has decent miles on the car (not more than 50,000) i would go with the camry. My family and i own 5 Saabs in total, but I would choose the camry if it was in better shape and knew the owner took care of it. The biggest deal breaker for me is that you know the owner of the Camry and dont know how the person who owned the Saab drove it.

Depends on if you want to be a soccer mom or Brad Pitt. +Camry: fewer miles, shorter time for the car to be abused +Saab:safer (better crash test results - this could convince your mom since she doesn't want an injured child), sportier, magnet to get sex (ha ha!), recommended as best pick by the IIHS and Consumer Reports. Get your choice inspected by a mechanic. I know someone with a 2005 Saab that spends $0 per year on repair, just oil changes (more expensive since it's synthetic oil) and inspection of brakes and other stuff. Caution: Toyotas being completely reliable despite abuse and no maintenance is a myth.

Go with the Saab! The camry is by no means a bad car, but neither is the Saab and it will be much more fun. I love my 2000 9-3. Admittidely, there are some big differences between a 2000 and 2005, but I am assuming that the Saab has an automatic tranmission and either a 175hp or 210hp 2.0 litre turbo engine. The engines are the same, but the more powerful one is available only on the sport. It should be easy to find out. Anyway, a truely great engine. Extremely reliable and good gas mileage. However, that era of saab does have some reliability issues concerning other components (interior electronics and such). If things go wrong, a saab dealer will try to charge you a lot. Find an independent mechanic (Saabs have developed a cult-like following, so there are certainly Saab specialists out there). What is good, is that they are extremely safe and also very comfortable (ergonomic interior). Plus, they are just so much cooler than a camry. I suppose the camry is the more "practical" choice, but I don't regret buying my Saab for an instant (and actually, not a single thing has ever broken on it). By the way, mine is a 2000 9-3 sport edition convertible with 115000 miles.
