Where is the v6 vectra ecu?

Vectra just cut out whilst driving wont let you read ecu unit?

  • driving my vectra along and just cut off put it on a dianostic test and wont let you get the falt from ecu unit

  • Answer:

disconnect battery. wait half an hour re connect. whan you plug in to vcu again, make sure the car is turned off before. then turn ignition on. now it should read, but may have fault, so you then have to reset unit which means you may lose data

As this can be so many things first try another, preferably better quality, reader. If this fails then your in too deep, the next step would be to test the j1962 socket, special tools needed, then start working on the ECU earths, and to do that I'd need to know the year, model, engine size and fuel,or the chassis number to even begin to test it. Best guess would be the ECU earths as this system pulls to ground the relays for the ECU and the fuel pump through the ECU down to earth,so bad earth means the ECU isn't even powering up,which means no code access so no reader will work.

Q

Do you have the right diagnostic tool as some wont read cars before 2000 models i have a 1999 astra and bought a diagnostic that said it read cars from1996 on but then found out that vauxhall hadn't updated there cars to obd2 reader till 2000 if you do have the right one and depending on the year of your car it could be a problem with your ecu or a wiring fault

Donna R

Very limited information there but it sounds like a major problem with the ECU itself or wiring or main fuses maybe.
