I have a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire GT. I want to get a Tornado Air system since I know they give you improved gas mileage (I use it to commute), however the last Sunfire their website says ...show more

Answer:
Those tornado systems are a scam. Do a little research, every review you can find on them will tell you that. Swirling the air before it enters your air intake has no affect on how the car performs. Consider that the air has to travel through your fender, through an air filter, through all the intake ducting, through a throttle body, past a throttle flap, through an intake manifold, through a very small intake valve opening, into a cylinder, where a piston sucks it in and then compresses it before fuel is sprayed in and ignited, that somewhere in the process it matters if the air was swirling around? On a carbureted motor, swirling air MAY help fuel atomization, slightly improving mileage and performance, but on a fuel injected motor, all it would do is be one more thing air has to flow though before it gets to the motor.

Tornado is complete waste of money. Spend it on a tune up or synthetics.

The Tornado does NOT work. Being in the performance car line of work, I was asked about it many times. So a couple years after they came out, I bought one just to dyno, track and road test it so I could give customers real feedback on it. It gained NOTHING. In fact the car I tested it on ran slower at the drag strip, and made less HP and TQ on the dyno with it installed. Mileage didnt change one way or the other. Look for an engine design idea. You want the air flow to enter your engine faster and straighter. Then you want swirl in the cylinders/chambers. Not before the throttle blades. The tornado goes agains the thought of every real performance part that does work.. Like K&N air filters (straightens air flow and lets air move through quicker) Short ram, and ram air intakes. (straghtens air flow and lets air move easier and quicker to throttle body) Vortec heads and other fast burn cylinder heads. (Fas moving runner, and swirl type chaber to make air swirl ater it gets into the cylinder, not before) If you truly think that tornado air thing works then you might want to buy some fuel line magnets, throttle body spacer with screen wire under it, intake gaskets with screen wire covering the ports, and anyt of the other fuel saving gimmicks that has been made in the last 40 years. Oh I know, try an elec. supercharger that you can get off ebay for like $35-50
