    I have a 96 firebird with a v6 engine and i found a place where i live that said for a LS1 (vette motor) with the computer, harness, transmission (6 speed) and the motor with low miles it would be approximately $3,500. But also you going to have to get new motor mounts and everything to support your bigger V8 engine.

If you are the poster who I referred to the link about the v6 to LT1 swap FAQ via trans am creations USA, they have pullout engines and trans and other parts for this. Look there.

1) How much are you willing to spend? Don't spend any more than that. 2) Search on Yahoo autos for Pontiac Firebird around your zipcode, and then look at the price ranges and decide what year and what condition you can afford. If you have plenty of $$$ maybe you can get a nice looking one, and if you are low $$$ then maybe you need to get something that looks like Joe Dirt, but chances are you can find something messed up enough somewhere you can afford it. The cheapest Pontiac Firebird nationwide right now on Yahoo Autos is a 1987 with a V8 for $1000. If you can buy a thrashed out old V8 vs a newer V6 and then swap in a V8, well what do you really want, and why do you think you are saving money to buy what you don't want and then swap?

You have to do an expensive list of mods before you change to V8. Like brakes, suspension, cross members, tranny, computer which will cost more then getting a V8.
