No break pressure on my 1974 Pontiac Ventura?

When you replace the master cylinder, dont forget to "bench bleed" the unit. Put fluid in the reservoir, with bench bleed hoses attached, so that fluid comes out the fittings and back in the reservior with no air bubbles. Then use a large screwdriver to push the master cylinder plunger in and out. First slow, then slightly quicker. Then install the master cylinder in place of the old one. Remove, and re-fit the brake lines to the new unit as quickly as possible after removing the bleeder hoses. Try not to let too much fluid drain out. This is bound to happen a little anyway. After the brake lines are tight, top off the brake fluid, and VERY SLOWLY put your foot on the brake pedal, once or twice. Tap the side of the reservoir with a plastic mallet a few times to get air bubbles to come to the top. Fill to the proper level, and put the cap on. There. Your done. If you still have a mushy pedal , you may need to have them "power-bled".

Your breaks are breaked! LOL Man, don't you folks know how to spell anything? Anyhow, you need a master cylinder properly installed and probably will need new wheel cylinders and maybe even flexible hoses. Change the fluid also. About the only thing in the brake system that would not effect the pressure would be the power booster. LOL Man, you should buy a Haynes book on your Ventura.

If the brakes are loosing fluid, then the problem is else where. If there is no brake fluid being lost, then suspect the master cylinder. Wheel cylinders and calipers leak fluid when bad. Often this problem is identified by the brakes pumping up (repeated brake pedal applications in a short time). But when the master cylinder is bad, the brakes do not pump up. No doubt when you get the master replaced there will be a problem some where else. A line will break or a leak at the wheels. So be prepared to do a lot of brake work in the next two or three weeks.
