They are fast and accurate in time plus you have trains all the time. from Lausanne,you can have daytrip to: 1-Vevey&then Montreux (about 15 min from Lausanne). 2-Geneva (33 min) 3-Bern (I think 1 hour something) 4-Lucern (about 1:45 min) 5- Zurich(more than 2 hours) , then you can go to Rhine falls(49 min more from Zurich) 6-Interlaken for all the train times and duration,check http://sbb.ch/en/index.html there is something called savers tickets,you can check online for exclusive deals but you have to book online.
