How do I change an EGR valve in 2000 Mercury Sable?

I have a 98 Mercury Sable with the check engine light on the code is for EGR valve.?

  • I changed the EGR valve but the light stayed on. I heard that it could be a vacuum leak or the Idle air control valve. Which one is it most likely for it to be or is it something else.

  • Answer:

There is a sensor that is silver colored and has 2 hoses going to it, It is call a Delta Pressure Feed back exhaust sensor aka DPFE. They are common to go out on them all the time. They are around 70 bucks at the dealer. Replace it and clear codes will fix it.

open an acetylene torch and wave it under the hood, when you find the vacuum lead the engine will speed up
