Hi I'm from Barcelona and my parents have a house in Begur (Costa Brava) late October is a bad idea to go to the Costa Brava, and you can not enjoy the beaches and will be almost fully closed, is a place to go from May to mid September. on that date windy and cold, not like in January or December but not enough to enjoy the beauty of the Costa Brava. in my opinion. visit the city of Barcelona never sleeps

For the weather check out this web site and you will get the answers to your first question: http://www.holiday-weather.com/costa_brava/index.html Regarding bars and cafes for alcohol and drinking age: You must be 18 to be able to buy alcohol in Spain, similarly tobacco and cigarettes. You will be asked for identity by bar and cafe owners if they suspect you are underage and regardless what some may say, bar owners can lose their licence by serving under-age drinkers and under age purchasers of cigarettes. All cigarette machines in Spain have electronic locks on them which are controlled by the bar staff to prevent under-age purchasers - there is the same attention to under age drinking. Regarding which bars are open - well owing to the economic crisis which has hit Spain harder than most of Europe, many bars have closed permanently. However if you are going to a known tourist resort on the Costa Brava - you should not have too much trouble. Be prepared to have deep pockets as even a coke in a disco can cost you 5-8 euros. Normal day bars it is usually between 1.50 and 1.80 euros. Alcohol is more expensive and late night bars the minimum is often 5 euros. Local taverns are around 3.50 euros. Beer is approx 1.20 - 2.00 for 33ml. in a normal bar. Unless we get a particularly warm winter then the beaches will be too cold and you may find that travelling to the Costa del Sol is a better option if you want warmer weather. However, it takes a lot to beat the night life of Barcelona which is very welcoming and fun for all ages. It certainly beats the dross that is Benidorm and the pretentiousness of Marbella.and Puerto Banus.
