Are all people from Barcelona, Spain called "catalan" ? What does Catalan even mean?

    Spain is separated into 'Autonomous Communities', these are self governing is many aspects, kind of similar to American States. Catalonia, the region where Barcelona is found, is one of these communities. People from Catalonia are known as Catalans and many speak their own language, Catalan. A person from Barcelona is either Barcelonés/Barcelonesa, which means 'Barcelonese'. They are also Catalan. A Calabrian is someone from the southern-most region of mainland Italy, so there;s a chance you may be mistaking that for somewhere else.

p.d I think you mean Cantabria... And like the other answer said... we have "States" Like the U.S called Comunidad Autónoma... but we don't have the same freedoms as a U.S state... - it is more of a regional government for the people... but we have many problems with this such as E.T.A who set of a car bomb and killed a police man, there's many bombs, but this is the first death since December. But the elections were "fixed"... PP and PSOE combined their votes - TWO VERY DIFFERENT parties, the also "found" some votes catalan is a language - seprate from Castellano (Spanish) it evolved from Latin naturally just as Spanish did... Spain was many small kingdoms etc. before unification - your from Italy ? We even owned much of Italy so people can still feel very regional - I myself a proud Basque. I'm Basque not Spanish. But there is still great support for national sports etc. such as the Spanish National Football/Soccer team
