What is appropriate to wear in Andalusia, Spain?

  • Answer:

I would say go with skirts rather than shorts (skirts are seen as more conservative, even if they're short, and shorts are a tourist thing) and tops that are not too exposing. Its always safest to go a little conservative, you'll draw less attention which is good when you're a teenage female in a strange place. That being said, Spain is not Egypt and you don't need to wear ankle length skirts and shirts with long sleeves all the time.

It was 37c in Sevilla yesterday and 34c in Granada. It was 35c where I live in Andalucia. As for visiting churches, I never wear shorts but they are used to the tourists doing it in some areas. My village the locals wear what they feel like. There is no code of dress. I've seen them using mobile phones and I've seen the lottery seller in there. Going to a cathedral will be different. Just wear what you feel comfortable in. The most important thing is not to overheat. Sevilla is a beautiful city. I was at the Alhambra Palace a month ago. I have been a few times. If you are going to the Alhambra, the morning session is best as the heat will get intense in the afternoon. Take plenty of water with you.

Hello! I just recently returned from Spain. I am also a teenager (female) who could give you some insight. First of all, Andalucia gets quite hot in the summer time! I was just in Sevilla and Cordoba and although it was the beginning of April, it felt quite decent for a t-shirt. We learned a lot about the methods the city uses to keep cool (haha sorry i don't have a great memory). We visited all the great mosques and cathedrals of Spain, and the one is Sevilla was incredible! (minus the snobby french teenagers lol). and the mosque in cordoba. In the cathedrals I was sure I coverup (no cleavage, pants or skirts signifcantly above the knee, covered shoulders and pehaps a decent pair of shoes--no flip flops) But minus the religious stops...I found that Sevilla was quite different from other Spanish cities for some reason! The spanish men did not single you out as much, and there were a great mixture of people there. Fashion seemed quite important actually! I couldn't tell you what they are wearing now, but these baggy distressed boyfriend jeans were popular with the girls as well as harem pants and there were SO many shoes stores there it was incredible. There is a large strip of shops we spent a lot of time at. Cordoba is a blur in my memory. Mosque, and jewish quarter are all i remember! Do dress conservitively, depending on the weather I guess. I do not recall the Spanish exposing a lot of skin. The fashion there is generally ruled by such stores as El corte ingles, Zara, Bershka, and others i dont remember. There were quite a few northern europeaners in this region of spain!!! But shopkeepers, etc, were more willing to help you with your spanish here then other places i think.....ha idk If generally decent weather, nice sandals, jeans, cute top should suffice. BTW go see a flamenco show! it will really make your trip!

Granada and Sevilla and other places in Andalucia, in mid June will be very warm. So use mainly cotton clothes with long sleeves and do wear a Panama which is the Spanish wide brim hat for females. And try to keep out of the sun between midday and five pm, when the sun is the hottest. You shouild use sun screen factor 20 on any exposed skin. Also wear ultra violet filter sun glasses.
