When would you go to Spain? Would you choose 2 weeks in Barcelona or 1 week each in Barcelona and Madrid?

  • Answer:

I would definitely visit both cities. I´ve yet to visit Barcelona but I´ve heard great things. I´m currently living in Madrid and can definitely say that the nightlife and culture here is wonderful. A week in both cities should be sufficient to soak up the culture and view the cities. Also check out gomadrid.com, there´s a great guide on how xmas/new years is celebrated in Madrid.

I would visit both. I have been to Barcelona and it is an amazing place but 1 week is enough to see most everything you would want to see. Do Madrid, too.

Either way, timewise, you are looking at cold, and possibly nasty weather. Also, shorter lines to get into things than in the summertime. Everything will close down on Dec. 25th and Jan 6th. Keep that in mind while making your itinerary. Restaurants should be open, but monuments and museums...nope. Christamas day really isn't a big deal in Spain, and even the 6th...that's an at home, or personal gathering sort of thing...you aren't that likely to really SEE much, unless you have friends. New Year's? Puerta del Sol in Madrid. No question. Bring a bunch of grapes with you. Split it up. You can do all the interesting things in Madrid, and even hit Segovia and Toledo in a week. Barcelona? You might want a little more time to do some day trips. You can probably do one or two during a week, there.

I would visit both cities. New Years is probably better in Madrid. I would also take day trip from Madrid to Toledo.

I would stay in Barcelona for two weeks, because even 2 weeks is not enough to see all and enjoy every event Barcelona is offering you. Madrid is nice, but I steel believe, that seeing the Barcelona beach and the new years eve in the city center is much more worth than seeing the capital od Spain. See the links to get some information about the city and accomodation there
