This in effect nukes all add-on applications from running automatically. It doesnt remove them from your system, it just removes their ability to run without your knowledge. It depends which websites youre visiting. Some websites have automatic pop ups that most pop up blockers cant stop. This is because the website is getting support from these advertisements to keep running so they will want to keep showing them to you to earn more support and cash. The only thing you can do is close them off constantly everytime you visit. On the other hand if the same ones appear all the time for no apparent reason, its most likely that you have an adware virus on your hands. try scanning your PC with a good antivirus like avast or AVG, McAfee, anything.. and itll find them for you. Good luck

New post: FYI: Phorm and other ISP tracking methods When your browser misbehaves, and irrespective of any anti-spyware, adware or hijacking defense you have installed on your system, a new wave of manipulating computers has arrived. If you have "BT" "Virgin" or "Talk Talk" in British Isle locations, or Charter Communications in the USA, (and other ISP's in growing numbers); be advised that they are currently utilizing ISP based "Behavior Targeted Tracking": in essence, your IP (address) profile is compiled and kept @ the ISP, by 3rd party advertising and marketing conglomerates, that as you surf the net they build a database of the clickstream that you generate. This database is then used to manipulate cookies of specific advertising displays from a pool of advertisers which your ISP has authorized to do, for the purpose of increasing revenue to the ISP. Also know that some of this 'Behavior Tracking' trash is able to reset your home page, and provide continuous advertising irrespective of what page your browser requests, and other browser behavior you will have no control over. Some of this 'technology' stems from Rootkit developers from a few years back. If you are not sure of what your ISP has done in the matter of these types of tracking & subsequent advertising, you should contact them directly, or Google around for more specific information. If possible, contact your ISP, as this requires an 'Opt Out' selection to your account, if available. Keywords to use might be 'p h o r m' + your ISP... For greater detail on this highly invasive aspect, and the now jepordized 'chain of trust' with your ISP, listen to GRC/Security Now, episode #149.
