What is a document management system (or information retrieval system) that is cloud or network-based, cross-platform compatible and can index and full-text search OCR'd PDFs?

I'm working as a sourcer and I've just gotten to the point where I realize I need to start using some kind of document management system to keep all of my resumes and other documents (leads in spreadsheets, etc.) organized. I've demoed some applicant tracking systems, but since I don't really do the hiring part of the process, they aren't really suited to my needs. Features MUST HAVE: accessible over a network and/or cloud-based ability to deal with upwards of 20,000 documents cross platform or (non-IE) browser based; I have a colleague who will also use the system who is Windows-based (I use OS X) can index and fulltext search on OCR'd PDFs, DOC, DOCX, XLS, XLSX, and CSV files; other supported file types would be fine the ability to tag and/or add metadata info for files; since my co-worker is on Windows, would love to be able to organize files outside of folders/directories--also why I'd like to be able to have the files indexed and do fulltext search NICE TO HAVE: diffing/versioning ability; when I receive an updated resume, it would be great to be able to compare documents and verify what content has changed in a given resumé fairly easy to deploy--initially thought to use Apache Solr, and while I like how customizable it is, it really feels like more of an enterprise tool that might not be super user friendly should others need to access the information. Part of my problem is that I'm not entirely sure what software category I should be looking at--I've looked at apps and saas platforms that variously are referred to as information retrieval, document management, desktop search. It's all a bit overwhelming and I don't really have the time at present to demo everything I come across that MIGHT work. What, helpful Quora Gods, comes to mind as possible solutions for my needs? Any recommendations? FOSS would be nice, but proprietary and/or pay solutions would be ok.

There is so much to address here - but first I have to give a shout out to Digitech ImageSilo - a cloud based management platform that meets all of your requirements. Not only is it extremely easy to implement, we can have it integrate with any HRIS or ATS system you are working with (to help make your processes seamless). Oh, and our staff can have yours trained in the software in about a day ;) http://www.nedocs.com But...there are other things to consider when making an investment in document management, primarily addressing the rest of your organization. Accounts Payable, Quality Assurance, even Customer Service can all benefit from a doc management system. If you are looking to make the investment, having your ENTIRE organization on-board just makes more sense. Not only will that improve the efficiency of other departments, it is going to transform your company documents into accessible and actionable data.

Well a document management system can different with requirements. For a cloud or network based DMS take look on http://DocControl.com. It is cloud based, platform independent document management system and do not require any special software to install in your system. Your browser now can act as a brand new Document Management System.

Not sure if you're still looking for a document management system. But, you should definitely take a look at M-Files. It fulfills all of your requirements and mostly importantly it's easy to use via the cloud or a network, and even a mobile app. Since you don't have time to have a demo of it, I'd recommend getting a free trial of the system: http://www.syscomservices.com/document-technology/products/mfiles/ <--Click this link.
