yes you have to cock the gun before every shot. I have a spring loaded riffle and I have found that you get more power and precision from each shot. It's also safer, your less likely to accidentally shoot someone when you have to cock the gun before each shot, you also waist less bullets. So yeah, you have to cock the gun before each shot but for good reasons ^_^
