    Fisherman are pretty picky about what equipment they like depending on the type of fishing they do. Your best bet is to get your Dad a gift card at a high quality shop like Bass Pro Shops, and he can pick out exactly what he wants for himself. This is a better gift than something he doesn't want or need that he has to take back and exchange etc.

I agree with Flatstick and AIRFLO. (Thumbs to both!) Trying to pick-out a great fishing rod & reel for your dad will be as "daunting" for you as your Dad trying to pick out a great clothing outfit and shoes for you! (lol) A nice multi-tool with a gift certificate would be nice. Or just a certificate! Good multi-tools? Leatherman "Skeletool" ($79) or "Surge" ($79).

100 bucks is not going to get you a high quality rig for off shore fishing. Your best bet with that budget is to look at a nice shakespeare rig, a spincasting "tiger" combo will work good, thats the only combo ive found that is somewhat affordable.

i would take you dad fishing and stop a store and buy him what he wants it would be like a shopping spree for you dad tell hes got a 100 dollars and then you all can go fishing. i think you taking the time with him and showing intrest in stuff he does for fun that way you are all happy. i know i always like to go fishing with my faimly
