Which Gps For Hiking?

Hand held GPS for occasional use fishing lakes and hiking? Which is the best buy and ease of use?

  • Answer:

I have the Garmin GPSMAP 76CSX and love it. Waterproof, floats, high-tech receiver so it works anywhere, even buried in your pack. I even bought a bike handlebar mount and take it with my bicycling. It'll cost you about $300 but its worth it.

Lowrance H2O.....Generally, finding an exact location is more important on the water, than on land. Not that it doesn't stay close, but you can see what's on land. Lowrance seems to have the edge on water.

Yes, Garmin is a good choice. However consider Magellan too. Both are rugged. Relatively ease to use. Can buy for under $200. Regardless of your choice-get very familiar using it closer to home. And taking spare batteries is a very good idea. Though small they do tend to be hard on batteries. Keeping the backlight turned off helps.

Garmin will be your best option as its waterproof and allows you to plot routes and has a digital compass. For a simple version in LCD black and white screen and WAAS enabled try the garmin geko https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=144

I have a Garmin and I love it. It can be a bit difficult to figure out at first. But its fairly inexpensive and has all the features you would need.
