What is good bait to catch catfish?

hot dogs covered in garlic salt,cut up hot dogs and put in plastic container with the garlic salt and shake often.keep in fridge.when your ready they should be.good luck.1 more tip,ckeck with the weather man for this,dont go fishing when the wind is from the east.

Almost anything lol, personally I like using bits of hot dogs, you can use night crawlers, even shiners or fish they like them dead more though. Just make sure you got your bait on or close to the bottom of the lake

I live in New York too. I find best to catch catfish with a worm. But there is a different selection. You need more than 1 fishing pole. I would say 3. 2 for cat fish, and 1 for bass ect. You may catch Carp by doing this way too. Catfish it great, use worms and shoot the line out far and keep the line out for a while. Buy a fishing stand ($2) at walmart and keep it there. You can than, get some white bread and put some peanut butter on it and make it into little balls. Than put it on a treble hook and cast that out far and leave it there and have another stand. With peanut butter balls you can catch carp. So use a 20lb+ braid line just in case. Than, you have 1 fishing pole left. Use the worms to just catch other things until a bite comes. Also, a bite alarm is great to use. Called Poletap, they sell them at walmart. But if the wind moves the pole, ur alarm will go off. Remember, careful removing the catfish from the line. They have fins "3" have a sharp barb. IT can cut you and poke you and cause infection. It has a posion. It will not kill you though. Have fun!
