Where is good trout fishing in new jersey?

    Yes you need the trout stamp. There are three good reasons: First, the money from the trout stamp pays for maintaining the fishery. Even if you're not catching any fish, you're using/enjoying the fishery. Second, if you do catch a trout, there's a reasonable chance that the fish will be injured when unhooking it. A dead fish is a dead fish, whether it's in your ice chest or at the bottom of the lake. Third, how does the warden know that you ARE going to release the fish? Many people have been known to lie to try to get out of a ticket. I think he let you off easy. Go buy the trout stamp. One other thing -- if you want good fishing advice, don't get it from Wal-Mart. Go to a real fishing tackle shop, where the people who work there actually fish.

NJ like PA stipulates that you must possess a trout stamp if you are fishing in waters stocked with trout - even if you are targeting other species or just playing catch and release.

this is a state to state issue, and you can contact the dept of fish and game in your state to get the law. wal mart should have a little book that's from the conservation dept, or whatever new jersey calls it that has all the regulations in it. you can do two thing different that will solve this for you. never admit to fishing for trout. or go buy a stamp.
