You need to be using gang hooks, I think? You can get info here: http://www.jrwfishing.com/gang_hooks.asp

My guess is that since you have been fishing just fine for years that there isn't any problem with the way your worm is hooked. You probably have something stealing your bait that isn't a fish. Try changing your depth you are fishing at. Also try fishing off the bottom and on the bottom to see if you notice any change. You may also try a smaller hook for a bit to see if you can catch whatever is stealing your bait, at least then you will know what you are dealing with You can change hooks too. I have completely switched over to circle hooks when fishing for bass, trout and panfish. They take some getting used to though. You can't "set" the hook when you feel a bite. Instead you just pull back at normal speed until you load the rod. These hooks have virtually eliminated missed strikes and stolen bait for me.

thred the worm through the mouth and out of the tail u may want to use bait elastic to stop the worm from falling off during the cast

The problem sounds as though it may be eels, try fishing a little higher off of the bottom.

thread the worm onto the hook and push some of the worm up your line also before fishing with worms put them in damp newspaper for a couple of days before you go fishing this will toughen up the worms so the fish cant pull the fish off so easily

Wind the worm around the hook, and try to use a smaller hook. Sounds like the fish are getting the bait without encountering the hook. Might be a school of young fish. What you also, might try is once you wind the worm on the hook, tie a length of fishing line over the beginning and the end of the hook (over the worm), that way they cannot get the worm easily. Sounds like a lot of small mouths chewing the bait. Good luck.
