as long as ti is not a silver hook it should be alright because catfish have acid in there system and it will usually dissolve before it passes thru their body.

well actually its OK to leave it there but its not good. Catfish havea certain acid inside their mouth thatdisolves hookswhen leftin there. Also you dont HAVE to leavethe hookin there If you hold the catfish tight not with pressure and give the hook a straight hard pull it will pull er' out. Good luck

It normally would be OK so long as its a single hook and not a stainless steel one that will be digested in the fishes stomach, the treble hook is a problem it can cause lots of damage in the fishes gut and will not be digested as most trebles are stainless steel and allot thicker than single hooks due to the weld needed to make them, in future fish single hooks and if you do use trebles make sure you will be keeping the fish, the fish you mention should have been quickly killed to prevent any suffering from the hook, circle hooks are a good alternative as often they will only hook in the jaws of the fish, also fish barbless hooks if you're putting them back, or flatten the barb with pliers.

it's not good if it swallows it and it's in the throat and you cut the line, it's OK if you do it and it's in the corner of the mouth, because it is hooked in the throat and it it dose rust out (witch is not likely) it would not be able to pass though the bowels of the fish, it may catch Tetanus (rust poisoning) and die. so keep the fish and fry!

hooks are made to rust away quickly. it wont happen over night, but it wont take too long and it will be gone. lose the trebble hooks. try circle hooks. they tend to not hook in the throat as much. they usually hook around the mouth. this is easier and better on the fish check out this link for more info..

no it is not bad.. within 48 hours the hook is broken down from the fish's system. the hooks are made to do that... try a circle hook, cuts WAY, WAY down on throat/gut hooked fish
