In your opion whats the best catfish bait or your favorate bait for catfish?

i live in ohio, live shad cut shad live chubs work well. i caught a 68lb flathead off live shad, i caught a 67lb flathead off live bass(bass are illegal so be careful) all depends on what,where,and when fish can be picky

I caught a 12 pound cat on a strawberry starburst and a salmon egg. My buddy takes shrimp from the local grocer, covers it is salt, chili powder and ground anise, lets it sit in the sun for a day, then keeps it room temperature, never fails. I also caught an 8 pounder on a nightcrawler/cheese marshmallow combo. Anything really will work as long as it is really bad smelling. I heard that if you take fresh shad or anchovy, cover in salt and let it sit on something absorbent, refreshing the salt everyday, garlic powder on the third day, for a week, then smoke it... it works wonders for cats and sturgeon in my area.

I have found that rooster livers (different from chicken livers) are just as bloody and much tougher, therefore staying on the hook a lot better. In my area (North Alabama) rooster livers are available at the Piggly Wiggly and the bait shops at state lakes.

To keep the liver on wrap em in some cut up panty hoes. Just cut it up so you can make a little pouches. The scent still protrudes though it, but it will stay on the hook. That and fresh cut Shad or Bluegill is my favorite bait.

I have used semi frozen hot dogs. They stay on the hook better if they are a little frozen. When they are thawed out they don't stay on the hook as much.
