You have many options that have a proven track record. Take some live worms, plastic worms, and if you don't already own one try a Jitterbug "popping lure". I have also had some luck in Texas with spinnerbaits with various skirts hanging off of them. My High School friends and I once caught about 35 trophy sized bass (there were just three of us) just using the Jitterbug in a Michigan lake. Until we got tossed off a lady's private property, we were on the verge of a record setting adventure. Good luck, and if you aren't planning on eating them, please release them safely for another day.

If I was fishing in a pond that had bass and trout in it then I would try a swimbait that looked like a trout. Bass will readily take a trout and there are some awesome swimbaits on the market now that look just like trout. Be sure to use a fairly heavy test line for these lures because the bass you catch may be the bass of a lifetime. Try the link below.

Plastic worms, spinnerbait, crankbait, and once the water has warmed (late spring) Buzzbait and frog baits work well.

Rubber worms. The best I have ever used is the natural color Bass Stopper brand. It's cheap and almost like cheating. I catch stuff all the time with that lure. A big hook with a big gob of nightcrawlers is good too. Also some crank baits work very well. Storm Hot&Tot are actually very good at reeling in big bass.

The one thing any fisherman should always keep in mind is that fishing lures, rods, reels, etc. are all tools of the trade. You wouldn't use a wrench for a hammer(though I have at times) nor would you use topwater baits if the bass are 20' deep. You need to use the right tool for the job at hand. First get an understanding of where the bass "probably" are and use the lures designed to that area. If it is a sunny day and the sun is high in the sky, the fish are gonna be relating to cover and have a small strike zone. Conversely, if it's cloudy, the fish are gonna be out away from cover with a larger strike zone. The most important element to bass fishing is knowing the water temperature. That will also be the body temperature of the bass, which will tell what his metabolism is. How active he'll be. The colder the water the slower the metabolism rate, the less active the fish is gonna be. There are several good articles on my website about fishing in ponds, and the effects of water temp on bass. Well it really depends on a couple things if the water is clear use darker more natural looking baits, muddy or stained opposite, Also see what kind of bait fish the bass are feeding on and use a bait close to that. Lastly this time of year remember to fish it slower where the bass are more lazy. After they go into spawn you can crank em.

Use rubber worms you can get at any outdoors store, or the fishing section at Walmart(they are cheap there). You can also use plastic baits you can get at stores. They resemble other bait fish, and they bite them.

The following link is to a lure i've had the best luck on a pond. I would recommend getting a couple, they're not really that expensive. http://www.landbigfish.com/tacklestore/showcase.cfm?PID=2938&SiteID=1212 Since there is trout in it, i would buy some senkos/dingers that would closely match the color of the trout. Bass do eat trout and this would work well. Here is a link to help you with that: http://www.bassdozer.com/articles/senko.shtml

You can never go wrong with live worms, especially in a pond situation. Live minnows should work as well. When using live bait, remeber to use gang hooks.....http://www.jrwfishing.com/gang_hooks.asp
