Answer:
I go fishing all the time in the winter. I'd love to go once a week, usually it's about two or three times a month, but I do fish all through December, January, and February. It's very cold, and I fly fish, so I have to get IN the water, but if you're expecting it and you dress right, it's not a big deal. I love fishing in the winter -- for one thing, you get the whole river to yourself, most of the time. I went this past Saturday and it was nothing short of awesome. http://www.flickr.com/photos/chadd_vanzanten/sets/72157623264055142/detail/ The brown trout and whitefish are spawning right now, so they are on the bite for egg patterns. Not hard to catch 5 or 6 per hour for long stretches of river. Once January (and the REALLY cold weather) arrives, things will slow down and become quite technical, but the fish have to eat all year, so they are there for the catching. Another reason I love winter fishing is because spring is not far off -- pre-runoff stream fishing in the spring is outstanding -- the scenery, the weather, the wildlife, and the fish of course.

Yes, I fish a lot throughout the winter, but I primarily go for bass and crappie. Fish still have to feed in the winter. Generally, fish hold in deeper water and they aren't willing to chase baits down like they are in warmer weather. Do you know of any deep cover or drop offs in the pond? If so, I'd fish those areas thoroughly.

Call him. Fishing is not always about catching and just to be out there with Granddad, having fun fishing is way better than catching a fish. Not saying that catching a fish or 2 wouldn't be icing on the cake. ; ) ~good luck catchin'

As long as the water temperature does not go below 42F, you should catch fish. I go all year round but prefer it when its cooler, extremes of heat and cold are no good.

Fishing is great year-round in Hawaii. Rod and reel fishing. Spear fishing. Net fishing. Lucky, I live and fish in Hawaii. Except: June-September fishing in Alaska for salmon, halibut, pelagic fish.

I fish year round when I can, I do less in the winter but that's more cause I'm less inclined to go out than because I don't think I'll catch anything, winter fishing is different but if you know what you're doing sometimes its even better cause fish activity becomes a bit more predictable. For any fish anywhere, they're going to slow down when its cold and go deeper or to warmer water if they can. So the first choice is if there is anything in the water that can warm up, like rocky piles, shell, concrete, fish this late afternoon or early evening when its had time to be heated up by the sun, if the day has been sunny. Otherwise just fish deeper areas and if you move your bait move it very slowly, otherwise sedentary baits are best.

Well I go fishing in the winter mainly for the game as in salmon/steel head/trout and catch and release but you can still fish for bass, bluegills and crappie. Either way, fishing for bass during the winter is much harder than during the spring or summer because they don't chase after lures much. During the spring they usually try to get as much nutrients as they can without little use of energy so a bigger lure will come in handy sometimes. Salmon are always fun to catch and always interesting. Recently i just caught a salmon and when i hooked it, it jumped 5 times right after and when i got it close to pull out the hook it slapped me in the face >_> and got away. Yeah but its nice in the winter, just wear extra layers and cover yourself nicely and it should be fine :)
