How many shots from a .45 magnum does it take to kill a cow?

There most certainly IS a .45 mag and there most certainly are pistol platforms that fire it. I had an Alaskan fishing guide who carried a .45 Grizzly as his defensive sidearm for brown bears. That said, it's an awfully expensive round to use for putting cows down. .22 LR works just fine.

never heard of a .45 magnum. When we have to euthanize one, visualize an X between the eyes and ears, there's your spot, usually one shot will do the trick. We usually use a .40 S&W. Although what I really wonder here is why are you asking if a cow is suffering? If it's not suffering and able to walk, why not sell them? Cull cow prices are still not too bad right now, even with people reducing their herds in some areas due to the drought. Sell them and last I saw it was somewhere in the $0.65-0.80/lb +/- depending on condition, location of the sale, buyers, etc. Shoot her and you have a carcass to go bury or compost.
