How is geology related to forestry?

What are some ideas for a school project related to Graph theory Applications in Geology?

  • I am doing my Integrated Msc in Geology.I want to do my Msc project(4 months) related to Graph theory and Geology. Please tell me some ideas how can i relate both of these topics.

  • Answer:

The relationships between pressure, temperature, chemistry, time -- and deformation/metamorphic reactions is complex enough to benefit from a graph-theoretic approach.  This is especially true, since electromagnetism is associated with deformation mechanisms, and with some other solid state phenomena.  Because rock is an aggregate of minerals, a graph-theoretic approach would really benefit the following: How electricity influences deformation, and how deformation influences electricity, How magnetism influences deformation, and how deformation influences magnetism, How electricity influences metamorphic reactions, and how metamorphic reactions influence electricity, How magnetism influences metamorphic reactions, and how metamorphic reactions influence magnetism. I like this topic, and it's what I did my thesis on (though without much graph theory.)  "Metamorphic Contributions to Electrical Phenomena in the Earth's Crust."  Here's a link to the paper. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/mudiyvcff0lpqpr/K3TYYMxQ14 This version should appear on the ProQuest PQDT Open Access thesis and dissertation database in early January 2014, or sooner.

It depends what type of data you have access to , but if you have access to decent geochemistry data I would be using this and you can analyse how geochemical signatures change within ore zones ect the hard part is finding quality data sets for your project, data collection is not cheap and usually tailored to a certain need, data quality and consistency is a whole different issue. So in conclusion if I were you I would find robust data first then tailor you project to suit the data.
