Why do TV's sound louder in other rooms?

Do your kids have tvs in their rooms?

  • I happened to mentioned to a friend of mine that my kids have TVS in their rooms, she was shocked. It helps them sleep. Besides me and my husbands room their are 4 other bedrooms and ...show more

  • Answer:

No. My son is 12, and no tv in his room. I don't want him dependent on it. He needs to be able to go to sleep on his own. More than that, I found, that when he'd stay with my parents, and watch tv in his room there, at bedtime, it took him longer to get to sleep, as he'd get wrapped up in whatever show was on. I will, admit I am a hypocrite on this one. My husband and I have a tv in our room. But... we're the adults. We're old enough to know when to shut if off and go to sleep.

Nope. Neither one does. My kids are 13 and 8. What would kill them to walk 15 steps to the living room and watch TV there?

Nice in theory, but disastrous in practice. Do you know what is on late night TV? There is a recommendation of only one hour of "screen time" per day for children. If they are having difficulty sleeping on their own, try a classical cd (on repeat). That is what we do for our son. You can't go wrong with Mozart! And your friend's will congratulate you on being such a wise parent, instead of staring at you in disbelief! Everybody wins!

Kids should know how to fall asleep WITHOUT television.

No, we only have 1 central TV in the living room and another in our bedroom. It is fine that you have TV for your kids. Just bear in mind that too much TV has been proven to result in kids having a shorter attention span, lack of concentration and focus in life. Reading is a much better habit than fast moving images on screen. TV also makes you lazy.....but to each his own. As long as your kids lives also incorporates sports and reading, I think some TV is fine. And if it helps them sleep, that's fine too. Just as long as they are having a balanced life. http://mamapumpkin.com

There is NO WAY I would let my kids had TV in their rooms, even when they were teenagers. When they were younger, I read my boys stories at bedtime, not let them be lulled to sleep by the boob tube. Furthermore, it promotes anti-social behavior and cuts down on family time because the kids would rather be in their room watching whatever suits them. So much for parental supervision. This is lazy parenting. Period.
