  Obviously I must disagree with your opinion. "All he basically did was they pass him the ball and he kicked it in". Are you serious? Have you even seen any of Pele's matches? Just because he chose to play forward does not mean that's all he played. He was a complete athlete and could play any position in the soccer field, including goalie. I don't think you've done any reading on Pele's life. Here's some of the basics on his career achievments. We're talking about a man who was athlete of the century, the yougest player of the WC and the WC final at 17, first player ever to score in three WCs, footballer of the century, someone who won the Laureus World Sports Awards Lifetime Achievement Award from South African President Nelson Mandela. Also, "a consensus of media and expert polls rank Pele as the greatest footballer of all-time". In 2005 Pele won the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award. He was second only to Muhammad Ali for the Sportsman of the Century award. He is in the National soccer hall of fame. He is second highest scorer of all time with 1281 goals. Not only that, he is a good role model. He works as a goodwill and a UN ambassador. He worked his way up from a poor family and now gives back to the poor in Brasil. Did I mention he is the football ambassador of the world by FIFA? The man is a legend...everyone in the world knows about him. I did not really know who Maradona was until a couple years ago. And yes...Maradona might be more popular simply because he's played more recently and you can't really compare players from different eras. But to say of all time, on and off the field, best soccer player ever, it's gotta be The King Pele.
