I disagree with Lavaman. If anything, Zidane should have sent Materazzi not to the moon, but to hell. The headbutt did knock Materazzi down rather than up.

Materazzi may have calculated his insult with the expectation that Zidane would strike back with a physical assault . If that is so , yes he deserved it , and got exactly what he wanted . It was brilliant strategy . Zidane ruined his team at their most critical hour . All over a simple taunt . What a foolish child .
