Whats the best position for a beginner at soccer?

I coach womens and girls soccer and I'd say start as a midfielder on the left or right side of the field or team formation. That way you have to both defend and attack and you and your coach will soon work out which of these you are best at. Many players start as forwards but soon move back into the midfield. Forward is the last place I'd put a beginner and defense isn't much better as both these positions require pace and technique.

Go for it!!! You will get better quicker with the help of a team! As for what position, your coach might have some positions where he thinks you, as a beginner will do well. I see a lot of beginners start out on forward. After you get a feel for the game you may feel more comfortable on D or mid.

Mid field hands down. If you are just starting than this will teach you all positions the quickest. Good coaching is also very important. I would stay away from defense and forward. Those are both very specific positions and gather some attention. Do not let anyone tell you that defense is where they stick the beginners or bad players. Anyone who has played the game for any amount of time know that being a defender is one of the toughest and least forgiving positions out there.

Forward would be the best for a beginner, with forward the strategy is pretty basic go to goal. With midfield you have to play defense and offense, plus midfielders are the main play makers and it is best to have experience there. The only reason i say defense isn't for beginners is because you have to mark players from the other team who are probably more experienced and defenders have alot of responsibilities. If you mess up at forward you basically have the entire team to back you up and to stop the ball, at defense if you mess up and give the ball away usually it becomes the other team running at your goal with only the goalie or one or to other defenders between them. That being said you should try out no matter what, just the experience will help you get better and prepare you more next year if you don't make it

well i would start playing at soon as possible and its better if u play with boys because if you do it would be more of a challenge the point of this is that when you go againts the girls you would notice that they play slower just more calm and you would get faster reactions you dont have to be as good as the guys but it helps alot trust me and as for the position you should chose the one you want to play but i wouldnt go out for center midfielder they do alot and also if you really want to get better practice alot even on your own and watch games and how they play well good luck but trust me on the boys =)

Midfielders are the best is you do really have stamina and speed. But Defense is pretty good for a beginner because it requires little running and only to defend. Fowards aren't too good for beginners because it requires good passing to fool defenders, tricks to fake out defenders and shooting accurate and fast goals. If you want to be outgoing, I suggest Midfield.

i started without any experience at defense. But, it helps if your coach coaches Brazilian style, where you don't play positions, you just play soccer. I went to a camp with a Brazilian style coach, and i improved the skills i didn't use as a defender. Brazilian coaching lets you get a feel of the game, and you can make a decision from what you are good at and what you like. but, the best first-timer position is probably an outside defender. hope you have a good season

i wouldn't start off at defense, if you get too out of position or if you make a silly mistake, it can cost your team a goal. however, i wouldn't really suggest forward either. you have to get really good at shooting and learn when to pass the ball and when to take it for yourself. if you mess up a run, it can be just as frustrating for your team as letting in a goal. i'd say that you should start off as either left or right midfield. that way, you'll have people behind you and infront of you supporting you. also, most likely you can't cost the team a goal (or at least you're not as likely to). also, midfield plays a little bit of defense and a little bit of offense, so you can figure out which one you like better. i'd talk to your coach, though, and ask them what they think

Well unless you're really comfortable on the ball then you shouldn't play in middle of the midfield, be a left or right outside mid or forward. Also, just make sure before you try it to know the rules and offsides and try finding some friends on the team and have them work with you to teach you how to play and what to do and what not to do. Hope this helps and good luck!
