    I commend you for your enthusiasm! I love soccer, too. I'm a 37 year old and a soccer coach. You are right to say that being able to run fast is extremely important but not everything. I recommend running a mile while dribbling the soccer ball on grass. It's a lot harder than simply running, it's great practice, and it adds some spice to your workout. It's healthier to run on grass because there is less shock to your joints and it decreases your chance of getting shin-splints. I recommend running 3 or 4 miles a day 2-3 times a week because an hour long soccer game would easily require more than one mile of running. Soccer requires fast sprints too so it would good to improve your time. Cross country, track, basketball, and volleyball sports can help improve your time to run one mile.
