What are some powerful ideas in math that are also valuable in other areas?
-
An example that I've observed from conversations with mathematically trained people, is "generalization" - that is, most observable phenomenon is just a discrete case of a more generalized rule/theorem. Understanding the theorem therefore explains the current phenomenon, as well as many other phenomenon. Another way to ask the question: what are some valuable mathematical 'worldviews'?
-
Answer:
Knowing and being able to admit when you are right and when you are wrong.
