What is the True Blood music?

What are some violin solos similar to "not in blood, but in bond" - the music of the last Sherlock Holmes movie?

  • Is there a name for this kind of music (in particular the first half of the track), which is very dark and kind of oriental ? Music Link:

  • Answer:

This sounds like Hans Zimmer has been emulating Georges Enescu's famous violin Sonata # 3 (from about 1920) which itself is channeling gypsy style violin playing, from very close to the source (Roumania at the turn of the 20th century.) It certainly is a good piece to, um 'emulate' though the Eastern European sound would seem to be a little off-topic for a Holmes movie. Here's the first movement - it is worth listening to all 3 movements: (there is also an historical though sonically outdated YouTube posting of Enescu himself performing the piece from an early electric recording I think.)

It also very much reminds me of Maurice Ravel's 'Tzigane Rhapsody for Violin,' one of my favorite pieces of all time. Also another example of gypsy style violin

It is parsing the folk style of Romanian folk music, with some gypsy influence as well. As mentioned earlier, George Enescu would be the closest classical equivalent, but I’m sure “Romanian Folk Fiddle” in the search bar of YouTube would give you many to choose from.
