Ooof. August is the hottest month in Italy generally, so many people take their annual holiday then - but not likely in the tourist areas. Corleone is near the south coast and not far from Palazzo Adriano, where that beautiful film Cinema Paradiso was made. Before you travel you should see this film, and then when you arrive in the town you'll recognise the setting immediately .... Otherwise, I found the DK Eyewitness Travel Guide book to Sicily to be very very good value.

That's not completely true, because in touristic places many restaurants are open even at Ferragosto, so if you go in a famous place it's probably that you'll find something open. However, you probably won't find any open shop. I suggest you to spend the 15th of August at the beach, this could be great. Moreover, the middle of August is usually too hot and sunny for visiting places. Sorry for my bad english
