How/where can I sell a Gold old coin (probably has collectible value?

Want to sell gold coin?

  • I want to sell my gold coin. The market value is $423 bucks. How much will a jewerly store give me? How much premium do they take? I don't want to take lower than 400 bucks

  • Answer:

I would avoid both craigslist and ebay - there are a lot of forgeries out there, and a lot of greasy crims. Don't sell this coin to a jeweller nor a bullion dealer - they will give you scrap value only - and generally only 90%-95% of spot. So, your $423 value looks more like $380 - $401 - it's possible that you might get offered $400 for it. IT'S A COIN - it has NUMISMATIC value. You may have priced up the gold in your coin and got $423, but let's say it's a collector's piece - rare - special and unique. That bumps the price up to say $450, $500 - maybe more. There would still be a small discount on the actual value - but you'd be getting more money from a legitimate coin dealer.

Jewelry stores have HUGE discounts.. try a coin dealer or two. if its a 0.25 oz krugerrand or something like that, 350 MIGHT be possible. you can also try CL, but watch out for scammers; sell for cash in hand ONLY.
