  • Answer:

I have been to both Venice and Rome at various times of the year but I would avoid July or August if you can as both cities are hot and crowded. You should see some of the usual places like the Forum, the Colosseum, the Vatican, Castel Sant Angelo, the Pantheon but I get most enjoyment from just wandering around. I pick a square (eg, Piazza del Poppolo) and then wander around the area. There is always something to see and do or nice food to eat and interesting shops. If you plan on staying in hostels, the hostel will usually have information about cheap and interesting things to do. Also, you may meet fellow travellers who will have suggestions. I know people who have used the following sites to find and book hostel accommodation: http://www.hostelworld.com http://www.hostels.com http://www.hostelmania.com http://www.hostelbookers.com
