    Twelve million were accounted for last year although it was probably much more. The city is famous for being unique. The only motor traffic is boats. Adults aren't even allowed to ride bicycles in the city. Every one walks or moves around by boat (vaporetto = water bus). You would need to be in the city during the week (weekends are usually just too crowded to appreciate it) and be out & about by 7am to see it come alive... and not hear the rubble of a buss engine. The city is also famous for its Art Biennale and of course its architecture, Casanova, Sebastian Cabot, Marco Polo and moreover for its glorious past.
