I know there are trains from Roma Termini to Venice Mestre. Venice Mestre is very close to Venice Santa Lucia. There is a nice McDonalds in Mestre too (some spooky large guy is cleaning up there, freaks me out ^^ sorry for topic change.) Anyway, you can go there by train, and it's pretty cheap. There is an information desk in Mestre, you can just look for it and ask them what trains will go to Santa Lucia, they're friendly there and will help you for sure. :-)
