How to detect invisible users in Gmail?

How many emails can you send simultaneously to Gmail users without getting a bad rep for your IP?

  • I'm running a new social networking website and have been sending out email invites. I'm being extra cautious about how many invites I send, because all the emails come from the same email address and I want to make sure the IP doesn't get a bad reputation and labelled as spam, especially by Gmail. So I've only been sending out about 30 email invites a day. I want to send a few system-wide emails to all the users now, about 350 currently. The emails will automatically go to their personal email that they signed up with and I'm wondering if I'll be ok sending out that many emails at once? Does anyone have first-hand experience with this kind of thing? Or hard numbers on how many emails you can send to Gmail users at once before you risk being labelled as spam? Am I being ridiculously overly-cautious? Or should I play it safe and email all of the users individually?

Being cautious when it comes to deliverability is a must. You really have several issues to consider: The level of engagement of your invitation emails The level of engagement of your emails going to subscribers The quality of of the email addresses you are sending the invites to, which is related to the first bullet Since it appears you are sending from the same email address for both of these types of emails, the engagement from invitations will impact the deliverability of the subscriber emails. So, you could start to ratchet up your send volume, but monitor the level of engagement carefully. If you see a decline in engagement, figure out how to improve your list, your emails, or, better, both. See the two articles below to understand engagement better and the impact on your deliverability. Generally, you would not want to send more than double your send quantity from one day to the next. http://www.fulcrumtech.net/resources/avoiding-gmail-spam-filter/ http://www.fulcrumtech.net/resources/email-deliverability-inbox-engagement/
