Of course it varies! But, I'd love to know what you know of what the cost could be. I live on the east coast of the US... I'd probably only be able to afford a week. I have ...show more

I just went to Italy this past September for about a week and a half and was in Rome for five days. I went with a school trip so we stayed in a convent, so it was pretty cheap. Hotels can range from $40 to $140 a night, depending on how nice you want it and whatnot. On food, sightseeing and survivors, I think I spent anywhere from 200-400 Euros, so probably around $500 max. I probably spent more money on food than anything else, but I was traveling all over Europe, starting in Rome, so I tried to shop sparingly. I also went to Florence, Padua, Pisa and Venice. Of all the places we visited, I loved Venice the most, just if you're interested in going somewhere else, I would recommend Venice. Rome was very crowded, hot and humid, smelly and probably the most unsanitary. The public restrooms... bring sanitizing wipes and hand sanitizer! If you want summer weather, going in October would probably be good, similar to a summer on the east coast. Like I said, I went in late September and it was realllyyy hot and humid. You just have to be smart when you're there. There can be two very similar places to eat next to each other and one can be a lot cheaper, just look and then decide. Same with gelato! haha on one corner it can be 5 euros, the next 3 euros. Just don't jump to buy the first thing you see, it helps to save money. As for transportation in Rome, I recommend the Roma pass, can use it on the subway and buses and even getting into a few sites. http://www.romapass.it/p.aspx?l=en&tid=8 That would probably help you to save a lot of money. There will be tons of walking, everyone walks and when you get there and see how crazy the driving is... don't waste money on renting a car unless you're an excellent driver. When we saw the driving and all the people on scooters zooming in and out of traffic, you had to wonder how they weren't scared for their lives. lol. Overall, I would figure anywhere from $3500 to $5000, including flights, just to be safe. Better to have extra and come home with money then to run out. :)
